Description & Requirements


The Field Manager serves as the primary contact between the Kraft Heinz Escalon Manufacturing facility and the growers that support that facility in matters pertaining to the contracting/securing- servicing- inspecting and harvesting of tomatoes.


  • Sole responsibility of providing the company with a steady supply of raw products in a quantity- and of a quality specified by good manufacturing processes and Escalon management- on a timely basis.

  • Oversee the planting schedule of growers- to coincide with the production needs of the company.  Provide proper seed for raw product production- as per the parameters of the company and the State.

  • Establish and maintain favorable relations between the company and the growers.

  • Maintain the ability to procure (if available) uncontracted raw product in cases of contracted crop failure or other unforeseen matters.

  • Reassure contracted growers that the operation will continue and emphasize the commitment to quality.

  • Assure proper application and handling of pesticides by growers.

  • Procure all pesticide reports and assure compliance with State and Federal regulations by screening documents from growers.

  • Contract required acreage and advise growers on agricultural practices.

  • Coordinate all phases of overall planting- including: Schedule planting and harvesting- Advise growers regarding soil preparation and fertilizers

  • Provide growers with seed specifications for variety requirements

  • Make frequent inspections of acreage to determine condition of crops and prospective yields

  • Provide plant management with estimates for determining base production schedules

  • Direct and coordinate the harvest and delivery of all products

  • Maintain favorable relations with growers- farm agents and county agents- as well as peers in the industry

  • Keep management informed of operations through periodic reports on crop conditions- competitive activities- market conditions- etc.

  • Analyze the seasonal activity- developing information as to its success and failure- and report to management with recommendations for improved operations

  • Procure late harvest tonnage not contracted for- but required due to pack requirements

  • Maintain relations with the contracted trucking companies and advise the company on contracted hauling rates for each grower and location.

  • Procure fresh herbs for production requirements.


  • Bachelors Degree highly preferred in a related agricultural science field

  • 8-10+ years experience in field operations of tomato growing/harvesting required

  • Working knowledge of good agricultural production in growing- harvesting and processing tomatoes

  • Knowledge of varieties of raw product (tomatoes) used for specific product utilization- with regard to yield per ton- flavor- “cooking” ability- etc.

  • Knowledge of farm equipment.

  • Ability to negotiate raw product contracts.

  • Knowledge of pesticide application- soil- chemistry and fertilizer technology.  Practical experience with plant pathology.

  • Strong communication skills

  • 50% Travel
