Description & Requirements

Under the direction and supervision of a Pilot Plant Senior Technician and dotted line supervision of a Maintenance supervisor- the Flexible Technician is responsible for day to day execution of pilot plant production and maintenance activities.  They will support pilot plant production trials- assist with pilot plant project initiatives- perform weekly preventative maintenance- create work orders and POs- execute work orders- and assess equipment and utility malfunctions.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Partners with other pilot plant technicians and maintenance personnel on critical work needs.
  • Assist with pilot plant production runs- sanitation- and swabbing requirements.
  • Complete equipment training as well as lead training for other users as needed.
  • Develop knowledge of food processing equipment and demonstrate understanding of operation and safety protocols.
  • Assess equipment and utility malfunctions and follow-through on repair.
  • Assist with weekly PM completions.
  • Ability to input and execute maintenance work orders.
  • Maintain clean workspaces.
  • Prioritizes safety in all work.
  • Complete daily rounds and readings of equipment in pilot plant areas.
  • Lead projects with internal and third party support.
  • Ability to complete computer work and utilize specific maintenance and purchase order systems.
  • Ability to read- understand and follow batch sheets to assist developers in production.
  • Ability to operate- maintain- sanitize- and swab equipment safely.
  • Ability to work across multiple pilot plant areas.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to accurately weigh ingredients and complete lot sheets for batches.
  • Ability to inspect equipment and products for cleanliness- foreign material- etc.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • 5+ years in the field of R&D research or manufacturing within a food environment
  • General mechanical and/or electrical abilities.
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment safely.
  • Knowledge of GMPs and Safety procedures and protocols.
  • Strong communication skills required- both verbal and written.
  • Self-motivated and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and accommodate requests or change in schedule.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and quality standards preferred.
  • Forklift trained- or willing to be trained and certified.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC- steam piping- electrical work- high pressure steam preferred.
  • Experience and/or knowledge around basic carpentry skills/ painting skills- desired.
  • Experience and/or knowledge around basic welding- fabrication- and pipe fitter skills- desired.
