Description & Requirements

  • Observes and interprets readings on gauges- meters- and charts that record various aspects of the system's operations at specified intervals to verify operating conditions.
  • Adjust controls to ensure safe and efficient operation of the system to meet the demands for the specified service.
  • Perform inspections as necessary to verify that the designated facilities are functioning within condition limits for the purpose intended.
  • Conduct water tests and make necessary adjustments to pumps- softeners- and controllers.
  • Maintain a log in which various aspects of the system's operation are recorded- e.g.- run time- system pressure- filter differential pressure- temperature- equipment status- water levels- voltage load- analysis of flue gases and generator balance.
  • Keep designated equipment and machinery in working order by performing such tasks as tightening fittings- repacking bearings- replacing packing glands- gaskets- valves- recorders and gauges- and cleaning and replacing burners or other components- using hand tools and power tools.
  • Operate computer control system to accomplish specific tasks relating to building and equipment operation. 
  • Operates the plant boilers and water softeners- air compressors- ammonia chillers- cooling towers- wastewater facilities and other utility systems in a safe manner. 
  • Monitor and maintain correct boiler chemistry. Maintains plant and pump station building and grounds.
  • Assist with and provide support for the maintenance of the plant including installation- repairing- maintaining- set up- troubleshooting- and / or operating Plant Utility systems mentioned above.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all areas of responsibility and proper care for tools. Lubricates motors and gearboxes as needed and when indicated by UE ultrasonic equipment. 
  • Other duties include proper use and care for tools- maintaining daily operations and maintenance logs.
  • Accountable for the QRMP (Quality Risk Management Process) standards as outlined in the plant’s QRMP accountability document- including the implementation- improvement and ongoing maintenance
  • Actively participate in an aggressive self-development training program that will be designed to dramatically increase one’s technical proficiencies.


  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma.
  • 3-5 years industrial maintenance experience and/or trade school.
  • Mechanical and electrical-electronic experience a plus
  • 5 years minimum of industrial boiler operations experience.
  • Must also have background experience concerning the following equipment;
  • Wastewater Operations experience – must be able to get license from State of Delaware within the 1st year of being awarded the bid.
  • Minimum 2 years industrial equipment operating experience with air compressors- air dryers- cooling towers- chemical lab and testing.
  • Experience with Industrial ammonia chiller operator experience including compressors- condensers- evaporators- and cooling towers.
