Description & Requirements

PURPOSE -

The Processing Lead has a primary responsibility for effective operation of food processing equipment accomplished in a manner to enhance the overall performance of the plant. To meet this objective, this position manages the Processing department in a manner necessary to meet or exceed quality, safety, productivity, and cost standards. The position will provide guidance and leadership to develop a high performance team; one that is self-directed, motivated, innovative, dependent upon the contributions of every individual, and properly trained to meet the changing requirements of the operation.  

   

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES –

Follows all food safety requirements in collaboration with Quality Assurance, Sanitation, and other plant resources.  Leads and/or assists others in conducting investigations to determine the cause of defects.  Monitors and is responsible for quality output and takes appropriate actions to insure production is right the first time. Validates and ensures formulations are accurate and in conformance with process flow. Conducts quality audits and monitors process batch analytical data for accuracy. Ensures that personal protective equipment is provided and used. Enforce safety rules and take prompt action when unsafe acts or conditions are identified Conduct routine safety audits and complete required safety forms Collaborates with all other plant departments  Maintain sanitary conditions of facility Assigns personnel, maximizes operational uptime, and manages use of processing machinery and equipment. Understand all the decks and operations of processing kettles Demonstrate the ability to operate processing equipment and operate when demands are needed. Leads projects in efforts of continuous improvement. Manages and generates daily crewing for optimum performance, included but not limited to daily crewing, hours, and overtime avoidance. Additional responsibilities of this position include assisting in the creation of a culture of safety and health by performing work safely in accordance with all company safety procedures. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor.  Occupational safety and health performance is measured in this position Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES-  

Minimum of six months processing/Quality Assurance experience in the food industry.

Knowledge of all production activities and equipment and working knowledge of quality standards for all products to ensure the safety and quality levels of the finished products.

Must be able to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.

Must be able to identify, define, improvise and resolve spontaneously, quality, sanitation and technical problems.

Associates degree in food science, quality, chemistry or related field preferred but not required.
