Description & Requirements

Role / Title

  • This is a Research and Development (R&D) Packaging technical role- in the Away From Home Category.  This position offers the candidate an excellent opportunity to identify- drive and lead innovative and disruptive packaging technology initiatives (for innovation- sustainability and cost savings) that will be instrumental in delivering novel- competitively and cost advantaged solutions across the Kraft Heinz portfolio.
  • The role includes identifying  sustainable packaging solutions- evaluating design to value projects and commercialization of new technologies/materials
  • This individual must have strong technical skills and be able to link technologies to applications- while demonstrating intellectual curiosity- problem solving- leadership- and project management skills. 
  • This position requires an individual to manage multiple assignments/ tasks concurrently with a high degree of autonomy
  • Exhibiting a collaborative mindset and applying innovative solutions are a must

Key Components of the role

  • Responsible for identifying and implementing sustainable packaging solutions across the away from home portfolio.
  • Work closely with tech platform team and global away from home teams to evaluate sustainable packaging solutions.
  • Assist DTV (Design to Value) team identify value add or cost savings opportunities for consumers and operators.
  • Build and coordinate relationships with suppliers and technology partners to identify new innovative packaging materials and technologies that can be adapted to food packaging Collaborate with operators to bring innovative packaging solutions to improve efficiencies and solve unknown needs.
  • Strong technical capability that is able to identify potential risks- and cost considerations throughout project implementation
  • Manage multiple initiatives with complex scopes and possess ability to influence business decisions based on probability of success and complexity to implement.
  • Able to qualify and commercialize identified solutions across a wide range of products- packaging formats-  and manufacturing equipment.
  • Understanding of APR guidelines- existing recycling streams- and ability to review current packaging formats to identify non sustainable items.
  • Highly motivated individual able to work on own initiatives and collaborate with others.
  • and/or cross enterprise platforms concurrently.
  • Understand cost implications of new packaging and communicate changes to business team.
  • Work with internal teams and cross functional partners to understand opportunities and build solid plans with defined deliverables.
  • Act as technical/commercialization expert for junior developers and flex onto projects requiring problem solving
  • Execute research plans- including patent/literature reviews- prototyping- lab testing- consumer testing- qualification on pilot and/or production equipment
  • Translate research findings into meaningful recommendations- communicating results and driving decisions and technology adoption
  • Lead and drive functional training and process improvements for the packaging organization
  • Have a high degree of autonomy
  • Engage with external vendors to identify sustainable packaging solutions applicable in the away from home category
  • Understand existing and emerging material recovery channels and limitations for away from home packaging.
  • Understanding of APR guidelines and ability to review current packaging formats to identify gaps


  • BS/MS/PhD in Packaging- Mechanical- Materials- Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Packaging Development or Research and commercialization (which can include graduate work and/or internships)
  • Expert understanding of packaging materials- functionality- qualification and commercialization of multiple packaging formats- design of experiments and ability to coach others in these areas
  • Excellent- proven communication- influencing- project/platform management and problem solving skills
  • Strong ability to lead- coach and motivate others
  • Experienced with MS office suit and able to work on MS teams
  • Manage multiple assignments/tasks concurrently with the ability to prioritize work for self and others.
  • Willingness to travel 30%
