The Kraft Heinz Company is currently seeking an ORM Team Lead to work at our processing facility in Lowville, NY. Successful candidates must be willing to supply improvements suggestions and ideas to help continue the success of our facility. Ideal individuals must be safety and quality orientated along with demonstrate adaptability and willingness to work in a team orientated, fast paced work environment. This position requires individuals to perform general production duties in a food manufacturing environment following strict quality and safety standards.

Work Schedule:

Primary schedule will be 07:00AM to 3:00PM, but the Employee must be able to flex between shifts to support plant needs and be available for functional cross training with department personnel. Some weekend coverage and overtime required.

The Lowville plant produces the legendary Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Kraft String Cheese! Built in 1971, the facility is over 400,000 square feet and houses 18 production lines. Milk and cream is supplied by local farms. With over 500 employees, the plant is one of the largest employers in Lewis County.

Position/Purpose:

The ORM Team Leader is responsible for managing assigned components of the Operational Risk Management (ORM) processes, including Safety and Health, Environmental, Business Continuity, Facility Security, Process Safety, Asset Conservation, and Worker’s Compensation. The primary purpose of this position is to assist and work under the mentorship and direction of the ORM Manager to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and KraftHeinz policies and procedures. This position will also include assisting in the proactive identification and communication of operational risks within the factory, and development of strategies to mitigate those risks.

This employee can perform all ORM related functions and additionally will assist in the development of the KHMS Safety First Culture in all Process Areas of the facility. Ensures safety equipment inventories are maintained, and the site is effective with timely execution of all required new and refresher training activities. Will represent ORM in KHMS related meetings as needed within daily operational functions. Conducts routine audits of operational controls to ensure effectiveness, and supervises data plan to ensure any new developing conditions are being monitored. Coaches and supports ORM Coordinators in daily administrative and hands on functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ORM related assignments, including but not limited to the descriptions below:

Health:

  • Lead and assist in compliance of employee health policies including injury management, accident investigations to determine root cause of incidents, and application of corrective action plans. Corrective action assignment and follow-up with owners, after the incident. The above will be documented and tracked through the Intelex system.
  • Assist with aspects of incident management, including tasks related to Workers’ Compensation claim management such as completion of C-2, C-11 forms, forwarding and filing dr. notes, dr bills, and associated filing.
  • Develop and participate in an “On-Call” Safety Team.
  • Lead and assist in injury management to minimize the effect of injuries on the employee and the company incident rate metrics (i.e TRIR)(SIFR)
  • Coordinate PFT’s for respiratory protection needs, hearing testing scheduling and planning, HAZWOPER training, Confined Space training, FA/CPR training, forklift operator, DOT training and other required training as needed.

Safety:

  • Actively promote & drive the KHMS program, including but not limited to, conducting Behavioral Observation, Quick Risk Prediction, JSA evaluations, Risk Triggers, and other employee engagement activities on the Plant floor.
  • Shares responsibility with KHC Management for safety rule ownership, as directed by the ORM Manager.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures, programs, and databases related to health, safety and environmental practices and requirements for the facility.
  • Actively participate in and assist facilitating the Lowville Safety Team and Process Safety Management (PSM)(SSM) meetings.
  • Develop a comprehensive safety inspection/audit program of site safety programs.
  • Assist with safety-related training development and presentations associated with company policies, OSHA requirements, Ammonia Safety and Best Practices, new employee safety orientations, routine safety training and toolbox talks. This will entail coordinating delivery of training to align with the HR training and Orientation schedule.
  • Assist with establishing the annual training budget.
  • Facilitate and assist with establishing and maintaining a contractor safety orientation program and ISN Compliance. Coordinate accordingly with Engineering and assist with contractor safety plans for shutdowns and outside contract work.
  • Maintain effective training records, arrange make-up training as necessary.
  • Coordinate consistent utilization of Job Hazard Analysis for all routine production tasks.
  • Assist with KPI reporting, data collection, preparation, and OSHA log maintenance through Intelex.
  • Accurately Review Incident data to create the data plan (IBDAP)
  • Assist with facilitating the site Management of Change process, including pre-start-up safety reviews, process hazard assessments (PHA) of new or modified equipment.
  • Perform regular safety and environmental plant walks to facilitate ORM objectives.
  • Provide industrial hygiene support for site operations: air monitoring, qualitative exposure assessments, control assessments, maintenance of the site’s chemical safety data sheets library and system, PPE certifications, etc.
  • Participate in site Capital Project Initiatives.
  • Lead and support HazMat, emergency response, incident command, medical responder & confined space rescue teams.

Environmental:

  • Sustainability – Drive effective programs to facilitate Plant efficiency including but not limited to Water, Natural Gas, Electricity, Liquid and Solid Waste Management while maintaining accurate recordkeeping.
  • Support Coordinators to maintain all Plant SPCC, SWPPP, SPR Plan and Environmental Policies.
  • Assist in wastewater treatment plant monitoring, operation, and associated reporting requirements including invoice approvals and budget tracking.
  • Assist and support Coordinators with by-product, recycling, and Haz waste management and training activities.
  • Support and participate in environmental inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Support ORM team to ensure accurate data collection on spill reports and follow up ORM actions tracked on ORMAP.

Security/Other:

  • Assist in management of the Plant-wide security system and program.
  • Demonstrate competency with plant systems related to security, fire protection, employee access, video camera surveillance system, etc.
  • Support all other site ORM objectives and initiatives as directed by the ORM Manager.
  • Facilitate ORM supply ordering.

Education and Experience:

  • Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science or other related technical field is desirable.
  • Professional Certifications in Industrial Health and Safety related fields are desirable. (CSP or SMS)
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in related HSE role is desired.
  • EMT, LPN, or CNA Certification desirable.
  • Basic Medical knowledge and ability to conduct detailed patient assessments with compliance to DOH requirements.
