Job Overview:
Operator tends packaging machine(s) performing a variety of packaging functions by making appropriate adjustments- controlling machine variables such as weights- seals- codes and waste by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities & Duties:
Other duties may be assigned.  

?    Starts machine and observes operation to detect malfunctions of machine.
?    Maintains sufficient product flow and packaging supplies to packaging machine(s) to insure efficient operation of equipment and personnel.
?    Stops machine(s) and clears jams.  Makes critical and routine adjustments to equipment to insure proper operation and reports major malfunctions to appropriate supervisor.  Calls maintenance personnel for major breakdowns.
?    Maintains target weights and makes changes to scale equipment to insure proper weight control.
?    Closely observes finished product and supplies for defects in quality and immediately notifies foremen of product or supply quality problems.
?    Changes equipment on machine to change from poly to paper and from paper to poly.  Set up scale to operate within grams limitations.
?    Remove or install casing equipment on an as needed basis.
?    Make necessary changes to tape equipment.
?    Inspects filled bags to ensure that product is packaged according to specifications.
?    Replenishes packaging supplies such as paper and poly- boxes- cartons- tape- ink- or labels.
?    Directs line personnel- instructs and assists new employees in line duties
?    Insures proper sanitation practices are followed on equipment by line personnel.
?    Requires appropriate safe practices on line equipment by line and maintenance personnel.
?    Completes as required various reports on machine/line operation.
?    Prepare equipment for cleanup as required.
?    Required to recycle cardboard- plastic- paper and film cores.
?    Clear overhead track jams when necessary.
?    Palletize when track or equipment is down.
?    Assist erectors with minor adjustments to blueprints and wexar.
?    Record and report appropriately on safety- production- quality- sanitation and maintenance issues to all necessary individual. (Maintain all operator reports accurate and timely) including checklists.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules- operating and maintenance instructions- and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to add- subtract- multiply- and divide in all units of measure- using whole numbers- common fractions- and decimals.  Ability to compute rate- ratio- and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to solve practical problems- deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written- oral- diagram- or schedule form.
