About the Role

The R&D Technologist will be responsible for undertaking Research and Development to deliver new and optimised food products in the Ready Meals area to meet our business objectives- ESG goals and to deliver to consumer expectation in regards to quality- safety and preference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of new and renovation of existing products and processes to deliver NPD- cost saving and quality improvement projects. This includes activities such as feasibility assessments- prototype development- costing- supervision of factory trials- recipe and label development- technical approval- shelf life assessment and technical support for initial factory production.
  • Provide technical leadership to drive project completion and adherence to business process in relationship with Marketing and other functions such as Manufacturing and Procurement
  • Drive growth and cost-saving opportunities for relevant business categories using commercial acumen and specific category knowledge.
  • Lead innovation projects that collaborate with multiple departments- and alongside our international zone

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Science/Engineering- preferably in Food Technology
  • Experience in the food industry- preferably in product development
  • Experience in development of ready meals- convenience meals- heat & eat- or ready to eat would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of sensory analysis methodologies
  • Understanding of the FSANZ Food Standards code and food labelling requirements
  • Understanding of interactions between ingredients- additives- recipes- processes and packaging types
  • Experience in plant-based development and/or knowledge of plant based proteins would be advantageous
  • Understanding and high level of competence in all elements of the product development cycle including insight interpretation- ideation to concept development- technical feasibility- factory implementation and product launch
