Description & Requirements

This position in our Glenview- IL Kraft Heinz Innovation center involves the physical and chemical characterization of various food systems using general and advanced analytical instrumentations.

Candidate's responsibilities will include interacting with food research and development professionals to identify and measure chemical and physical characteristics related to food quality- functionality- and performance. It is an ideal opportunity for a laboratory-focused scientist who enjoys integrating laboratory findings into cohesive explanations of what is happening at the molecular level in food ingredients and finished products.

Candidates will plan and implement independent projects- participate in developing project objectives- and complete the same- recommending action plans to implement key findings. The candidate should have aptitudes for applying and maintaining complex analytical instrumentation. The candidate will be evaluated on communication skills and potential for demonstrating technical leadership within a scientifically and culturally diverse organization.

Work Relationships

  • Will collaborate with clients- including R&D and potentially plant personnel

  • Will collaborate equipment/instrument manufacturers- 3rd party lab partners- suppliers


  • B.S. degree in chemical engineering- material science- physics- or physical chemistry with three-year experiences or an M.S degree in related fields with academic or research experiences in polymer science- fluid mechanics- rheology- colloidal science. Candidates who have an additional minor in chemistry at the undergraduate level are preferred.

  • Excellent laboratory experimentation and mathematical/data analysis skills

  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of a variety of analytical techniques- including wet chemistry- light scattering/transmission- rheology- texture- stability- and particle size/molecular weight distribution analysis

  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent interpersonal & project management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Familiar with ISO 17025 accreditation and running a laboratory according to ISO 17025 guidelines.

  • Ability to build strong customer/client relationships

  • TRAVEL: 0-10%.
