About the Role

The Senior R&D Technologist is the R&D lead in the area of managing our Value Engineering project execution from our King Street- Hastings site. You will execute R&D Value Engineering in identified Value Engineering opportunities across Formula- Process- Package and/or Distribution

This an opportunity to demonstrate product development best practice to deliver projects (VE and R&D) with executional excellence- inclusive defining clear project and business objectives- undertaking robust technical feasibilities- time line development and adherence

Key Responsibilities:

Value Engineering Execution

  • Deliver VE projects on time with no rework.
  • Engage with key stakeholders (Procurement- Operations- FSQ & Marketing) to leverage scale- expertise and ensure local alignment & support.
  • Facilitate resolution of technical challenges.
  • Preparation of feasibilities and timelines based on clear understanding of VE
  • Execution of VE related validation benchtop and factory trials
  • Leverage technical networks (Suppliers- Procurement- KHC International & USA) to identify- assess and locally implement VE opportunities

Team and Organisational Development

  • Ensure appropriate supervision of direct reports to achieve project completion.
  • Coach and develop direct report through the MBO and development process.

Routines & Rituals

  • Drive/Support visibility Supply Continuity projects by co-ordinating and participating in regular WIP meeting for all projects.
  • Participate in fortnightly ANZ VE Meeting- and Monthly Regional VE meeting.
  • Assist driving adherence to Due Process inclusive: Stage and Gate- Project Now- Agile technical feasibility completion and Change Control process across VE.

Supply Continuity

  • Maintaining supply continuity of our core products- as a result of ingredient short falls and/or substitutions.
  • Responsible for managing- negotiating and allocating resources to ensure delivery of
  • Supply continuity of core products (due to ingredient shortfalls)

About You:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Process- Chemical or Mechanical) Food Technology/Science.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in a Research and Development in the Food industry.
  • Familiarity with and ability to work within manufacturing and Pilot Plant environment.
  • Process improvement and process development experience/expertise within Food Manufacturing / food product development Industry.
  • Productivity / Value Engineering track record.
  • Understanding of key Food manufacturing process steps – Ingredient Preparation- Blending- Thermal Processing & Packaging.
  • Project Management experience
  • Business production systems including Agile- BPCS and SAP
  • Knowledge of sensory analysis methodologies
  • Understanding of the FSANZ Food Standards code and food labelling requirements.  
  • Understanding of interactions between ingredients- additives- recipes- processes and packaging types.
  • Understanding and high level of competence in all elements of the product development cycle including consumer insight interpretation- ideation to concept development- technical feasibility- factory implementation and product launch.
