Description & Requirements

The individual will support the Next Generation Ingredients Team specializing in Functional Systems working from the Glenview R&D facility. This position offers the candidate an excellent opportunity to lead innovative and disruptive ingredient technology platforms while creating competitive advantage across the global Kraft Heinz portfolio. The candidate will manage technical platforms- identify- and lead ingredient technology development initiatives. The candidate should be able to also identify future technology platforms- prioritize research pathways- demonstrate proof of concept- develop prototypes- conduct technology scale up trials- validate technology in model systems and applications- conduct consumer testing- and commercialize technologies. This includes understanding of the business need- designing and executing tests- analyzing data- drawing conclusions- documenting- and communicating results to both technical and non-technical audiences.  Proven communication and collaboration skills are essential in this role.

This individual must have a proven strong technical background- leadership- intellectual curiosity- problem solving and project management skills. Technical background should include general food science and ingredient interactions with focus in encapsulation- controlled delivery- and emulsion technologies or protein chemistry- proteins/ingredient interaction and processing for improved functionality. The candidate will have also cross-functional team interaction with the scientific community/ecosystem outside of Kraft Heinz- internal marketing- R&D- procurement- finance- operations- quality- regulatory and manufacturing. This position requires an individual to manage assignments/tasks with a high degree of autonomy.  Intellectual curiosity- ability to deal with ambiguity- and collaboration are a must.


  • Possess strong technical functional skills to evaluate ingredient functionality and process interaction in various food matrixes

  • Be able to embrace all aspects of ingredient technology development including the fuzzy front end- ideation- design- development- and commercialization

  • Identify- scope- design and develop technology platforms to support different KHC product category initiatives

  • Design- support- and execute benchtop and/or pilot plant trials- then summarize and translate results clearly for technical and non-technical teams

  • Adapt and apply scientific principles to new situations/products and have a moderate degree of autonomy

  • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to learn new product categories and/or processing/packaging areas

  • Proof of concept formulation and product development across multiple categories

  • Identify and communicate high level implications of proof-of-concept results in relation to business and financial impact- scale up risks- and timeline

  • Direct communication with suppliers and internal & external partners

  • Responsible for technology scouting and discovery

  • Build/have external connection to research partners such as universities- research centers- consultants


  • B.S. degree in Food Science- Chemistry- Biology- Engineering- or related fields with minimum of 7 years of relevant experience or M.S. or higher in the above fields with at least 3-5 years of relevant experience

  • Strong ingredient and food matrix/model system know how and skills interrelationship of ingredients- process- and packaging

  • Strong expertise in controlled delivery systems and/or protein chemistry- processing- or functionality

  • Excellent understanding of Design of Experiments- laboratory experimentation- scale up- and mathematical/data analysis skills

  • Demonstrated record of conducting research development projects either individually or in collaboration with other teams

  • Demonstrated executional excellence in technology discovery- scale up- and commercialization

  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and ability to make connections to the big picture

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity

  • Demonstrated track record of creative out of the box thinker with ability to define and prioritize research pathways that will ensure success and manage complexity

  • Possess excellent industry external ecosystem- as well as setting up and conducting collaborative research engaging externally

  • Possess technical/intellectual curiosity and understand how technology can be insulated

  • Ability to manage projects with a high degree of autonomy

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time
