Description & Requirements

Under the direction and supervision of a Sensory & Consumer Science Sr. Manager- the Sr. Technician is responsible for the day- to-day management of the sensory kitchen and panel activities.  They will be responsible for sensory panel set-up- execution- and data management as well as specified administrative and facility management duties.

Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

  • Performs internal sensory panel studies and employee tests with limited guidance from the panel leaders and according to protocols; including but not limited to project scheduling and sample check-in- rotation- preparation- cooking- and serving.

  • Establish serving protocols for new products with panel leaders

  • Responsible for study preparation (labeling of plates/cups- organizing trays) and study clean-up.

  • Handles inventory of kitchen supplies- small equipment and groceries (ordering and/or shopping in person).

  • Handling of data management software- RedJade: build- start- run and stop tests- handle error-functions- and set-up studies.

  • Maintain clean and sanitary kitchens- sensory booths- and training rooms.

  • Creation and Management of paper and electronic product folders.

  • Training of contractors and new hires as needed.

  • Occasional evening hours as needed.


  • Associates Degree required with 1-3 years relevant experience; Bachelor’s Degree in Science field preferred

  • 3 plus years laboratory/kitchen experience- preferably in a sensory evaluation kitchen or consumer testing center; food related experience a plus

  • Working knowledge with Windows-based software

  • Experience with RedJade or CompuSense software preferred

  • Knowledge of kitchen GMPs

  • Intermediate cooking/culinary skills

  • Strong verbal and communication skills

  • Self-motivated and strong social skills

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and multitask

  • Experience with processing data (compiling- coding- categorizing) a plus
