Boiler and Refrig Tech
Pay Rate: $29.56
The incumbent shall perform routine maintenance work, such as greasing and lubrication routines, line inspections, perform preventive maintenance procedures from a checklist, perform basic troubleshooting, make adjustments and replacement of parts on equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities for Boiler and Refrigeration Technician shall be accomplished through the use of the following:
• Lube all operating line equipment as directed
• Perform minor preventive maintenance as directed
• Record all equipment failures when found
• Fill out time reports as required
• Report equipment malfunctions to supervisor
• Perform and understand all boiler house and facility rounds, checks and log readings
• Have the ability to determine if supervisor needs to be notified immediately or if pass down will do.
• Perform basic boiler and refrigeration system operation
• Have the ability to adjust boiler or refrigeration system’s pressures through adjustment of controls. Must be able to switch, stop, and start pumps, fans, valves, compressors, and boilers as needed to operate system. Must operate water-softening system to maintain soft water to factory at all times.
• Perform basic electrical troubleshooting such as fuse and continuity checks
• Have the ability to check voltage, amperage, and continuity to determine fuse, switch and motor failure problems.
• Perform proper and safe use of tools and machines
• Determine proper tool for job.
Practice ammonia and steam safety, including the use of S.C.B.A. and safety equipment
• Trained in use of SCBA and be able to perform as per plant safety requirements listed in factory safety manual.
• Demonstrate an understanding of steam principles and facility steam system with the ability to
troubleshoot pumps, valves, and piping.
- Must be able to identify problem and take necessary action to keep steam system online by switching pumps, changing valve alignment or using bypass lines.
• Demonstrate an understanding of refrigeration principles and facility refrigeration system with the ability to troubleshoot pumps, valves, and piping
• Must be able to identify problems and take necessary action to keep ammonia system on line by switching pumps, changing valve alignments or bypass lines. Manually run compressors in local and making necessary setting changes to keep system running. Isolate sections with ammonia leaks and use safe procedures for handling it.
• Demonstrate a general knowledge of the plant air system, water system, waste treatment system, and Fire System
• Must be able to: A. Start/stop air compressor and cooling system. B. Open & close PIV’s and call IRI. C. Reset emergency fire system. D. Know how to switch pumps in waste pit. E. Know where and how to isolate hot, cold, RO, and soft water systems.
