We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager to join our Heinz Wattie’s team in Hastings, New Zealand at the Tomoana Site. Here you will play a key role in driving strategic oversight and support for our engineering and maintenance departments. Driving innovation on site while leading and supporting our maintenance and engineering teams in their daily operations. This role offers the opportunity to shape our site’s future, deliver operational excellence and ensure our manufacturing capability remains world-class.

The Company

Our brands are truly global, with products produced and marketed in over 40 countries. Tomoana site is one of the largest Heinz Wattie’s sites within New Zealand producing condiments, jams, soups, single-serve and frozen meals as well as petfood production in both pouches and cans.
 

Key position responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the engineering and maintenance departments, ensuring alignment with Kraft Heinz policies and procedures
  • Oversee the Engineering team, including Project Engineers and other engineering staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute maintenance-related capital budget items, and support the Maintenance Manager in planning and managing new projects
  • Ensure facility and assets meet compliance with all safety procedures and standards
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering and maintenance departments, implementing best practices and innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency
  • Optimise costs through effective budget planning and management, collaborating with the Site Manager to ensure cost-effective asset management and minimise loss and waste
  • Partner with business leaders on equipment and manufacturing reliability, process improvements (Six Sigma/Lean), and major maintenance and project requirements
  • Conduct reviews to improve departmental services, equipment reliability, and factory operations, and support the team leaders in conducting major downtime activities and special projects
  • Provide expert advice and support on electrical control systems, PLC programming, and other technical aspects related to plant operations

About you:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent, with relevant professional accreditations and certifications
  • Strong and proven practical experience in the manufacturing industry, with successful leadership of semi-autonomous work teams
  • Food industry and/or packaging experience, with knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles
  • Strong understanding of OH&S and EPA regulations and systems
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work hands-on, unsupervised, and meet deadlines, with a 'can do' attitude and strong alignment with company values
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer systems, with ability to learn and adapt to new systems
  • Ability to support a continuous operation (24 hrs, 7 days per week) and effectively plan and manage through change within large enterprise organisations
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand with full working rights
